Two poker lessons with one stone

I played a deuce to seven tournament the other day.

The tournament started oddly.

It was a poker site i'd never played on before. They (poker site) let players sign up for the tourney and they leave players there, whether they play a hand or not, until they are out of chips. Usually if a player doesn't take their seat on the first level, they're kicked out of the tourney.

Half the players at my table never took their seat.

So the table was short handed. No biggy! Lot's of action. I love action!

It was fairly late when I started the tourny. 3, 4 am pacific.

I was doing well. Stacking chips. Making plays. Playing my opponents. Taking chips. Bullying the table. Trapping players...

My stack has occtupled(?) in an hour or two,

when...

The baby starts to cry! Come on baby go back to sleep. Shhhh, your alright.

Nope, baby ain't havin' it.

So I sit out of the tourney to get a bottle. This is close to 5:30 or 6 now.

I'm feeding, trying to play. Even as I write this she's getting fussy. Go to sleep baby.

Ok so I'm getting anted and blinded off, but I got a bunch of chips. No prob. Right?

Wrong, this is a big prob! It's close to 6:30 or 7 by the time she lay's down. And I just remembered that I have to watch baby, all day, until 1:45pm. At which time I have to take baby to the doctor (mommy has to go away for some business). I have to get up in 5 hours. But I know baby has to get up at least twice during that time which means...

zero sleep!

I've given up on the tourney by now. Realizing I should go to bed.

So I close out the tourny (still with a descent stack of chips), close the poker site and turn off the computer.

All the while thinking about how far I could have made it in the tourney.

So lesson numero uno...

make sure you have ample time to play, before you start.

and lesson number two...

(learned after sleeping two hours that day) get plenty of sleep before watching a baby all day!
